The Stills - Love And Death

This a solid track from their debut album, and is sufficient enough to help us forget that much else of what they have done is largely...forgettable.

Rocket Science - One Robot

Australian group Rockety Science have a cult following, but much of their work slips by unnoticed. "Being Followed" is a quality track and liable to end up on here at some point in the future. "One Robot" is equally as listenable and I hope it brings pleasure to all and sundry.

David Bowie - Quicksand

Taken from one of Bowie's earliest and finest pieces of work "Hunky Dory" this track encapsulates early Bowie. Dark, moody with air of desperation it sums up why Bowie is and moreso was one of our finest ever song writers.

Morning Runner - Frayed Edges

Unfortunately (as happened with the 22-20's) Morning Runner made one brilliant debut album and then split up. Their mix of piano, guitar and quality lyrics struck a chord with me anyway. This track is lifted off a B-side, although I am not sure which one.

The Bees - Got To Let Go

Come on now people you cannot fail to enjoy the ska pop hooks of the fun loving Bees. Thus track is a raucous tune taken from the their third album. All the sounds of the summer and nothing lost in the process. Roll on album number four.

Richard Ashcroft - Brave New World

Even though I loved the Verve I've never been utterly convinced by Ashcroft as a solo artist. He is without doubt a songwriting talent but I think the sugar coated over-production of some of his solo material has put me off. The Verve were massive and had a quality sound but Ashcroft has only produced moments of magic on his own (maybe why the Verve reformed and released a new album - 'Forth').

This is a good tune. 'Brave New World' invokes the spirit of 'Urban Hymns' and is a brief return to form. Enjoy.

Bob Marley - There She Goes

Even though Robert Nesta Marley is remembered mostly for his lively, upbeat reggae floor-fillers, the Jamaican also had an extensive, quality back-catalogue. "There She Goes" usually features on the multitudes of compilations that list Marley's earlier (and lesser known) work. It's a soft, heaftfelt ballad and reveals Marley as an underrated songwriter.

Editors - Bones

Taken from the second Editors album, "End Has A Start", this is arguably as good (or even better) than much of their previous stuff. The anthemic "Munich" aside, it's good to hear the band hitting the high notes and really going for it. Nice lyrics, good tune and a fast pace; a standout track from a rising force in British music.

Bloc Party - Compliments

Even though Bloc Party are mainly known for their rousing punk anthems, this delves into a darker side, much explored on their second album. "Compliments" is moody and solemn but this only adds to it's quality. When Bloc Party go darker they do it well; extremely well in fact.

Antony And The Johnson's - Cripple And The Starfish

Arcade Fire - Haiti

A brisk, sprightly offering from the Canadian rockers and named after a Caribbean island too! Not sure of the lyrical origins of "Haiti" but it's a welcome early break from the general mood of the stunning debut album, "Funeral".

22-20s - Such A Fool

After the success of "22 Days" i got a request on YouTube for this track. "Such a Fool" is another one from the 22-20's

Supergrass - Eon

If there is one band that are criminally underrated it is surely Supergrass. Chained from youth to the fizzy pop genre after spawning Alright and the excellent "I Should Coco" album, a lot of their best quality material was produced later.

This is from the third (and arguably best) album, self titled and brimming with great tunes. Eon reminds me of Pink Floyd which cannot be a bad thing. Enjoy!

22-20s - 22 Days

The 22-20s have since split but they made one self titled album and always gave excellent value for money when they were in function. I saw them supporting Supergrass in Nottingham, 2004.

"Devil in Me" was probably there most well known track but this rousing indie anthem, "22 Days" did it for me!

Massive Attack - A Prayer For England

Okay let's kick things off here with a Massive Attack track to start us off with. It was number six on the album "100th Window" and it is called "A Prayer For England."

This song is dark and moody, but with a poetic quality. Highlighting the spate of child abductions happening throughout England at the time and the responsibility that adults have with regards to our young folk.

Welcome To This New Blog

This fun blog has been created for the sole purpose of keeping alive some music's forgotten tracks. The one hit wonders, B-sides, never released tunes and most importantly, album tracks that just slipped off the radar. There were some great songs on albums that were just never heard for many reasons. Maybe they were not released or maybe you just hated the band!

Either way, hopefully someone somewhere will enjoy these songs and if there are any comments or suggestions then leave them in the box below and/or e-mail me.

Each link will be for youtube, accompanied by basic pictures.

Cheers! stoi689
